A midi controller keyboard does not have a sound generating module in it and is used only for sending midi messages to external software / hardware.
So how is it useful if it cannot generate sounds on its own? It is useful if you have a predominantly software based recording setup. If you use a software sequencer for sequencing the tracks, and if all your instrument sounds are generated using soft-synths and VSTs, then you only need a controller keyboard. You just have to connect the keyboard controller to a computer or a laptop, which will have all the necessary software programs
There is no need for you to go in for a full fledged digital keyboard. A midi controller keyboard will be able to send all the performance related messages to the software programs. The controller keyboard will send midi messages to capture all of the performance related parameters. Photo by Charles Noble A bit of cross pollination will take place this Friday (April 30th) when two members of the Oregon Symphony will be featured as soloists in a concert by the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra with Huw Edwards conducting. The Oregon Symphony’s principal violist Joël Belgique and his wife, Oregon Symphony violinist Inés Voglar, will perform Mozart’s “Sinfoinia Concertante” with the Portland Columbia Symphony. Belgique and Voglar are also members of the Fear No Music ensemble of which Voglar is the artistic director. I met Belgique and Voglar in downtown Portland when they were taking their lunch hour break during rehearsals for this past weekend’s concerts with the Oregon Symphony. They gave me the lowdown on their upcoming performance with the Columbia Symphony. Have you played the Sinfonia Concertante before? Belgique: We have done it together in a recital with piano not too long ago. Voglar: But you’ve ...read more

Taylor acoustic guitars come all the way from California, and are known world-wide for their solid-body and semi-hollow electric guitars, and hollow-body acoustic guitar creations. Bob Taylor, the current operator of the business, built the company with Kurt Listug in 1974. They had met while repairing guitars for the company The American Dream. When owner Sam Radding sold the company hollister , Taylor, Listug and a certain Schemmer bought it out and changed the name of Westland Music Company, but later changed it to Taylor Guitars so it had a more American feel to it. They created prototypes and had dealers check them out, but did not sell much. In fact, production was stagnant at 10 guitars weekly, but without sale. The year was already 1981 and they continued to make guitars, constantly tweaking and fine-tuning, but still could not sell any, and they didn’t have enough to ...read more
